About Rip 4/2020

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: S
  • General Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Current Size: 40 Pounds
  • Current Age: 7 Years 6 Months (best estimate)

Rip does not chew on things in general, but does like tennis balls.  He will play fetch and when you are done, will lay down to chew on the ball but so far, hasn't chewed on anything he is not supposed to.

Rip is now used to a leash and does not pull, however in true border collie fashion he tends to walk circles around you while on a leash - we are working on stopping this behavior and Rip generally does very well walking right by your side...but needs an occasional reminder not to circle you.

Rip attaches very closely with "his person" and tends to not want to leave their side.  I fully believe this dog would walk through fire to be with me.  He is exceedingly affectionate and loving to whoever he deems "his."  He is a little leery of men and it takes a few visits for him to warm up to them, but once he knows they are OK, then he's fine.

Rip is highly food motivated - he will follow a cookie or a treat anywhere!  Now that his leg has been amputated we are going to start working on basic commands like "sit" and "down" and see what else he can learn!

Rip is still a work in progress - his first 3 weeks with me we were just trying to get a handle on his medical needs (clearing up skin infections from laying in his own filth at the shelter, getting him to gain weight, and figuring out the best course of action for his back legs) and now that those are under control, we are finally able to start working with Rip to get him to be the best boy he can be!  Typical border collie, Rip is smart and eager to learn!
